Overview

Standup or “Daily Scrum” is a short meeting for the team to get alignment towards the sprint goal. It can take many formats and ultimately should be decided on by the implementation team. We encourage the use of the Jira board as a backdrop to help remind the team of what stories and tasks need to be completed for the sprint.

Conducting Standup

For each member of the implementation team …

  1. Click their name in the Jira board to see the stories assigned to them:

  2. Starting with the highest priority item in the backlog (which will typically be the rightmost item), the team member should share:
    - Any problems or blockers they are facing that need the assistance of the team
    - Their progress on those cards

  3. Story status should be updated according to the Jira Workflow .

  4. If there are topics to discuss with the team, we will call them out as “parking lots” and discuss them at the end of the standup. Parking lot topics should be written call’s chat.

Once all team members have shared there status, “Parking Lot” can begin. The standup facilitator will:

  1. Review the different parking lot items and who should be part of them.

  2. Have a brief discussion on each parking lot topic.

PRO TIPS:

  • The facilitator should let people know they do not have to attend the Parking Lot and should encourage people to drop.

  • If there are too many topics, too many people attending, or Parking Lot runs too long, schedule additional meetings instead of using Parking Lot.
